Dealing with Sweating after Workouts and Styling Natural Afro-textured Hair

This has been something that I've searched the WWW, YouTube and questioned any individual who works out like me (or better?), who struggles with the curly coily hair that sprouts from my roots and I've come to love.

I have found tidbits of information here and there, but nothing or no one who THOROUGHLY/COMPLETELY shared their experiences about it. SOOOOOO, thought I'd talk about it here. Besides, maybe this will help another poor soul as myself.

My findings:
  • Folks wear weaves, wigs, Havana Twists, Senegalese Twists, Singles or some sort of covering.
  • Folks on other blogs don't respond back when a question is asked about how they take care of their hair OR the other respondents go on a different tangent then I become completely lost forgetting my original question of how do they maintain their hair for sweaty workouts.
  • Folks are naturally gifted with that crazy fast metabolism so, "they" don't necessarily push themselves hard or they don't have to.
  • Folks shave their heads bald or LOC their hair.
So, let me go through some things that I am NOT willing to do from some of my findings.
  1. I am not opposed to wigs and/or the long braid extensions; I am a fan of all of these styles. One STILL has to maintain their own hair underneath the wigs, sew-ins and braid/twists extensions.
  2. The high metabolism thing, uh, duh-yea, umkay, got it. I have a decent metabolism. I've found since I've started Nutriblasting, along with my proper eating, I've not been as hungry as before...(maybe more on that at a later time). Long story short, my metabolism is on point.
  3. For now, I am not shaving my head. I am not above it, it's just not my choice right now. Folks who know me personally, know that I could possibly wake up one day, drive to the barber shop, sit in the chair, and have the Barber do his/her thing, and won't even bat an eye. Hell, I might even shave it myself if I wanted. So, being bald doesn't scare me.
  4. LOC-ing my hair, although I love it on my family members, friends and strangers, it's just not my desire.
To get the ball rolling, I'll do my best to share my experiences, good, bad or indifferent. I will also do my best to share what styles have worked for me and the products I've used. Some of my experiences may be similar to someone else's you've seen or may not have been discussed or seen before. Either way, it's from my experiences. I am a firm believer in giving credit to those if I've learned from them. If anyone finds they have comments or questions or even suggestions let me know, I may consider trying them myself; comment below.

Disclaimer:
The data in my blog is PURELY from MY own personal experiences. I am not professing that what works for me will work for you. No matter what, ALWAYS, ALWAYS & ALWAYS "DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH" people. Also, if ANYone is disrespectful, rude and just plain hatefully nasty to anyone on my pages, I WILL delete your comment and block you. So, play nice folks.

Here's what I've personally run into...I enjoy working out, BUT
  1. I don't want to ruin my hair
  2. My hair takes FOREVER to dry.
  3. I have to re-wash my hair.
  4. The sweat will make my scalp itch.
  5. How do I maintain my current do?
  6. It's too cold outside to be walking around with a wet head.
  7. It takes too long to redo my hair.
  8. I don't want to look crazy.
Bottom line is this...we get older, we gotta work out. (To be even more honest, this is something we should have been doing when we were younger to get into the habit...A GOOD HEALTHY HABIT!) Sure, we can easily do light brisk walks to where we only perspire, but let's get real here...I don't know about y'all, but mamma has to truly go for it if she expects results OR not get bored. I gotta sweat, and I mean HARD. If I don't find the work out challenging, mamma will get bored QUICKLY. Another honest point, I find joy in seeing me sweating in the mirror at the gym, or my sweat on the floor. (It's empowering, kinda sexy too *;)*). So, how do we make this a win-win situation? Don't know yet, but I am gonna do my best to document all of my findings. Working out as hard as I do (4-5 days of cardio + 3 days of weights), is my goal. This goal may not be for everyone, BUT we all can agree that we want to...
  • Be healthy
  • Look good (I am not opposed to vanity) & look good doin' it
  • Make sure we are making healthy hair choices
  • Not end up bald-headed because of the lack of care to our tresses. (UNLESS we CHOOSE to cut it, it should be our choice to not lose our hair due to neglect.)
I have been struggling with the, "What do I do now?" question and working out for some time now. Today is the first time I'm documenting things. Wish me luck folks.
